Received 08 August 2012, Revised 07 December 2012, Accepted 10 December 2012 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Abstract The present study explores the copper selective complexation character of 5,11,17,23-tetranitro25,26,27,28-tetrahydroxycalix[4]arene (p-TNC4) among a series of different alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal ions, i.e. Li, Na, K,Cs Mg, Ba, Hg, Cd, Pb, Co Ni and Zn using absorption spectroscopic technique. p-TNC4 shows pronounced discriminative specificity towards Cu even the interference study of other co-existing ions also proved this selectivity. Furthermore, the solvatochromic effect, effect of acid (acetic acid), alkali (piperidine) on spectra, response time measurement and the stability of p-TNC4-Cu complex in MeCN has also been investigated. The stoichiometric analysis (i.e. Jobs plot) reveals that p-TNC4 forms 1:1 host-guest complex with Cu.

The pH effect on complexation of Alkali metal cation by p-sulfonatocalix (4) arene in aqueous solution
The complexation of Alkali metal cations by the water-soluble p-sulfonic acid calix(4)arenewas thermodynamically characterized using spectrophotometeric data which are consistentwith the formation of a 1:1 complex resulting from electrostatic interactions between thesulfonato groups and alkali metal cations. In this study, we determined the formationconstants (log K) of the complexes and have c...

The glycine betaine (betaine), interacts with several types of proteins with diverse structures in vivo, and in the contact regions, the aromatic rings of protein residues are frequently found beside the trimethylammonium group of betaine, implying the importance of the cation−π interactions in recognition of this molecule. The crystal structures determined by X-ray crystallography of the compl...
متن کاملIon pair-induced conformational motion in calix[4]arene-strapped calix[4]pyrroles.
In order to understand the still-poorly understood interplay between calix[4]arene conformations and cation and anion recognition in multicomponent systems, the ion pair receptors 1 and 2 were synthesized. In solution and in the solid state, the calix[4]arene subunit of receptor 1 adopts a cone conformation, while that of 2 interconverts between the cone and the partial cone conformation. These...

The partially bridged resorcin[4]arene cavitand featuring a cleft-shaped recognition site formed by two anti-quinoxaline bridges and four convergent HO-groups was prepared in three steps and characterised by X-ray crystallography; cavitand was found to be a selective receptor for steroidal substrates in CDCl3, with the best binding observed for steroids with a flat A-ring and two H-bonding site...
